The Austrian Hospice / Guest House in the Old City

The Austrian Hospice in the Old City of Jerusalem offers an interesting combination: a place with an atmosphere of holiness, lodging and somewhere to enjoy a wonderful urban view and an apple strudel. The Austrian Guest House is located in the Muslim Quarter and serves mainly Christian pilgrims. It is its purpose today as it was when it was built in the mid 19th century. From the busy street you enter an island of European tranquility. A staircase leads to the rectangular structure and at the entrance there is a statue of Mary and baby Jesus. You can sit down in the beautifully kept and pleasant courtyard and enjoy a cup of coffee with cake or a traditional apple strudel. The Austrian Hospice has three floors and its fa?ade is decorated with red and white stripes. But even with everything that this place has to offer, the main reason for coming here is its roof, from which are seen the views of the Old City and the Temple Mount. Among the places that can be seen from here are the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, the Damascus Gate and the Church of the Redeemer, and there are many others.
Arrival at the Austrian Hospice: 37 Via Dolorosa Street (at the corner with HaGai Street), Jerusalem.
