The Ayalon Institute Museum

The "Ayalon Institute” perhaps sounds innocent and does not mean a lot to many, but it was the same in the 1940s when only a few knew what this "Ayalon Institute” was: a top secret, underground factory for the manufacturing of bullets for the Sten sub-machine gun which was used by the "Hagana”. Here at the heart of an innocent grove in the Kibbutzim Hill near Rehovot, is this special place, which functions without much public relations and offers a little bit of a different tour under the ground with many piquant stories from the turbulent 1940s. In this context, it is interesting to know that the entrances to the underground factory went through a bakery (fictive) and a launderette (which really did do laundry). This place presents a recreation of the production lines and various figures, mechanical devices and various authentic accessories, and enlightening explanations.
