The Bar'am synagogue

The ancient synagogue of Kfar Bar'am is an elaborate structure built from big and beautiful basalt stones. It was built in the third century CE during the Jewish Mishna and Talmud period, in which the Jews flourished in the Galilee. The fa?ade of the synagogue, which remained almost complete, is magnificent. It has three doorways and the middle one is especially large and beautiful. These gates, which face Jerusalem, are decorated with beautiful stone carvings. In the village there was a second, smaller synagogue, but little of it was found. A lintel from this smaller synagogue is displayed at the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. A kilometer away from there one can find the entrance to Alonei Bar'am Nature Reserve, which is an enchanting natural forest with impressively large common oak trees.
