One of the less known names for Mount Carmel is the "Mountain of the Thousand Caves”. It is not certain that it does have this many caves, but it is certain that Me'arat Etsba ("Finger Cave") is one of its best. This cave, located on one of the western slopes of the mountain, got its name from the shape of its opening, which looks like a giant thumb. And if we already deal with imagery, its three halls are like the three joints of the finger. In order to get to this cave, one should park at the Nahal Oren parking lot (Oren stream), near Oren Junction and climb up on the black-marked trail. During the climb a beautiful view is revealed: on the one side- the sea, and on the other- the mountain itself. Upon arrival to the cave’s opening, you can sit down, rest and catch your breath. In order to go into the cave and enjoy this experience, one should bring a good flashlight. The cave is big and wide and one can walk in it standing upright.
