On a peaceful hill in the area of the southern Coastal Plains’ sand dunes is located the site with the intriguing name of "Hill 69". This number indicates the height of the hill in meters above sea level. But that is only a small part of this place’s story. At Hill 69 a difficult battle took place in June 10th, 1848 between the IDF and the Egyptian Forces which ended with the Egyptian conquest of the hill as well as with many dead and wounded on the Israeli side. Memorial plaques and a monument tell the story of the place, which today presents only magnificent views of sand dunes and vast fields. If you arrive at Hill 69 at a time when it is relatively empty of visitors, you will be seeing a charming, quiet and very romantic place, which also contains the remains of water towers that were built by the British. Hill 69 is located about a kilometer east of Eshkolot Junction.
