Kohav HaYarden (the Star of Jordan) Fortress is located high up on Ramat Issachar (the Issachar Plateau) and looks over spectacular breathtaking views. Thus it is also called Belvoir Fortress. This is the strongest and most complete Crusader basalt fortress of its kind in Israel and it was built in the 12th century. It is the only fortress in Israel which was excavated completely. The fortress has an external stronghold, at the center of which is a tower. The fortress wall has five sides and it is surrounded by an impressive deep moat. At the corners of the fortress are strong towers. In this site one can also enjoy a walk in the picturesque sculpture garden featuring the sculptures of the famous sculptor Yigal Tumarkin and watch the feeding station for birds of prey and eagles. On warm summer nights there are magical tours by lanterns here around the hidden corners of the fortress.
