The Israel Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center

The Israel Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center was established in Mikhmoret in the end of the 1990s, and it serves mainly for the rescuing of injured turtles which are brought to it- from the moment the turtles arrive here, through their veterinary treatment and until they are returned to nature, if their condition allows that. The turtles receive dedicated treatment- from blood tests, through x-rays to complicated surgeries. The everyday activity, done mainly by volunteers, includes the cleaning and feeding of the turtles. Some of the turtle rescue stories are fascinating and it is very much recommended to come here for the guided tours which take place on Saturdays and are suitable especially for families. These include a presentation about the life cycle of the turtles, description of the dangers which threaten them and a tour in the treatment yard. During this last part of the visit you will get to meet the various patients in this place from up close, learn about their story and about the amazing work that is being done here at this center.
