Be'er Sheva, the capital of the Negev, started its existence as a random collection of wells by which gathered passing shepherds with their children and sleepy herds. However, Tel Be'er Sheva received the honor of being mentioned several times in the Bible. Today, Tel Be'er Sheva National Park, which spreads over 12 dunams, serves as some kind of a local time machine. This place was settled not only in Biblical times, but also later. Thus, for example, this place was fairly popular during the Roman and Byzantine periods. The remains here include a reservoir of water into which was directed flood water, various structures (including reconstructed mud structures), remnants of streets and a watch tower. Here was also found the deepest water well in the Negev region, which is 70 meters deep. And of course this is a Tel (mound) which points at it having high observation points toward the surrounding landscape.
