Nahal Me’arot (Caves Stream) Nature Reserve

Nahal Me’arot (Caves Stream) Nature Reserve provides a rare and unique glimpse into the continuous settlement of this area throughout many of thousands of years. This is one of the few places which point at the surprising possibility that the Neanderthal Man and the Homo Sapiens lived in it side by side and even together. Nahal Me’arot (Caves Stream) Nature Reserve includes four caves: Me’arat HaTanur (the Oven Cave), Me’arat HaGamal (the Camel Cave), Me’arat HaNahal (the Stream Cave) and Me’arat HaGdi (the Young Goat Cave). A visit to this place is like a journey into prehistoric times, when this land was completely covered by the sea. One can also find here extraordinary and fascinating evidence for prehistoric Man’s settlements and unique evidence of a first burial, which symbolizes an important step in cultural religious and ceremonial development.
