Sussita

Sussita is not just an archeological site, but also a mountain and a nature reserve on the western slopes of the Golan Heights, which offers breathtaking views. The archeological site of Sussita is the remains of a Polis (a City State) which was founded here in the Hellenistic period in the 1st century BCE. This large city included most of the area of the mountain which rises to the height of 145 meters above sea level. The visit to the archeological site is pleasant and easy, as long as it is not too hot. Here you will find sections of the walls that survived, a watchtower, the remains of churches, a bath house, wine presses, church columns that have fallen to the ground during the earthquake which took place in the area in the 8th century, and ,more. One can also find at Sussita installations that served the IDF during the Yom Kippur War, and, of course, the magnificent view over to the Sea of Galilee.
