At the end of the 1860s the members of the German Templers cult arrived in Haifa and built in it a beautiful colony, as they continued to do all around the country later. To the west of their colony, with its beautiful large houses, is located the Templers Cemetery (next to the British Military Cemetery), where the colony’s members were buried. The Templers Cemetery, which was founded in 1875, is very well-kept and preserved in the best of European tradition. Along the years, an impressive monument in the memory of the first members of the Templers movement was transferred here from the Jezreel Valley, as well as Templers’ tombstones from Bethlehem of Galilee. At the Templers Cemetery there is also an obelisk which commemorates the German victims of the First World War.
