As the city of Haifa is built on Mount Carmel, one needs to climb it. However, this feature of the city of Haifa provides a city tour which offers charming views as well as some heart and lung exercise. In the city of Haifa one can choose between four different Step Routes, all of which go down, from the mountain to the lower city. The Step Routes are well indicated, and in order to enjoy them one should of course start up (at the end of the Step Route it is recommended to go back to one’s car by a taxi). All Step Routes begin at the "Gedera" Steps, and from there they split and descend to the German Colony, Wadi Nisnas and Paris Square (Kikar Paris). Each Step Route includes about a thousand steps. It is much less difficult than it sounds, especially due to the breaks between one set of stairs to another but also thanks to the breathtaking views- both close by and far away- which are revealed on these routes. It is recommended to go on the Step Routes during the day, and even more so in the evening.
