Nahal Og (Og Stream)

Not far from the kibbutz of Almog at the northern area of the Dead Sea one can find Nahal Og (Og Stream or Sumac Stream), the most northern of the Judean Desert streams, surrounded by a magnificently beautiful desert landscape. Nahal Og (Og Stream) stretches over about 30 kilometers and passes through wild canyons. It is named after the thorny sumac plant which grows in the vicinity of the stream and all over the Judean Desert. The Og Stream’s channel is very steep and thus during winters it floods strongly. Throughout the years monks have settled near the Og Stream, who have built structures, dug water holes and occupied caves here. Visitors to the Og Stream will be able to enjoy a challenging trail which combines a climb on ladders, waterfalls and walking inside narrow crevices, among water cisterns and in unique ground conditions.
